A SERIES of upgrades have been made to a village’s community hub, helping it to become “a vibrant, sustainable space for local residents”.
Macmerry Miners Welfare and Community Hub, on Main Road, has undergone the improvements over the past 12 months and the latest stage to be completed was seeing replacement windows installed.
Previously, a new alarm system was put in, the car park was resurfaced, the kitchen was upgraded and the roof underwent major repairs.
The new windows – replacing the originals from 1975 – were able to be replaced thanks to a collaboration between CISWO, The Barrack Foundation, East Lothian Council and Celsius Windows, whose support has been “invaluable” in helping the committee to move forward with their plans.
Stuart Fleming, president of Macmerry Miners Welfare & Community Hub, said: “We’ve been working hard to modernise the welfare and make it a welcoming, energy-efficient space for our community.”
