East Lothian Boxing Club has been without a home since 2018, but permission has now been given to transform a building off the town’s Hospital Road.
As well as providing a home for the boxing club, the building could also be used for pilates, yoga, dance and martial arts.
Callum Colquhoun, chairman of East Lothian Boxing Club, was hopeful that the gym could be up and running before the end of next month.
He welcomed planning permission being given and was confident that the club was heading in the right direction once again.

He told the Courier that he "genuinely believed the club will be more successful than it was last time because of the experiences everybody has got".
Mr Colquhoun said: “We are going to be better set up.
“We do not have the financial worries or the limited space that we had before.
“We will thrive.”
Councillor Tom Trotter backed the proposals
The proposals were discussed by Haddington and District Community Council last month.
There, Councillor Tom Trotter, who represents the town on the local authority, gave a firm backing to the plans from Haddington Community Interest Company.
At the meeting, he said: “The appeal for this club is not just from Haddington and East Lothian.
“I am involved with Boxing Scotland and clubs across the country are more than interested in this club getting back.
“One of the focal events were the events in the Corn Exchange, which were fantastic and everybody remembers them, from one end of the country to the other.”
Mr Colquhoun confirmed that Mr Trotter’s support was mirrored throughout much of the community, who were keen to see the facility up and running.

He said: “The phone calls that Keith Colgan has been getting and the messages I have had from people are just desperate for it to happen.
“Obviously, we have still got the training structure to get sorted out but, once we know what our numbers are going to be, we will adapt as we move along and we will evolve.”
Planning officials noted both the support of the community council and also that there had not been any objections from members of the public.
A planning statement included with the application also highlighted the touching tribute the gym would pay.
It reads: “The ambition of the Haddy CIC goes beyond the boxing club.
“The boxing club will be the heart, lungs and liver of the facility, which they intend to call Joe's Gym, but the potential assistance that it can offer as a home for other groups is only limited by imagination.
“The name chosen is an acknowledgement of the late Joe Forte, a stalwart of the town and a long-time supporter of sport in East Lothian.”
