A SECTION of the A1 in East Lothian will be closed overnight for two nights next month for roadworks.
Resurfacing work has been scheduled for December 5 and 8 at Myreside Junction, 1.1 miles west of Spott Roundabout.
The roadworks will see BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, resurface about 210 metres of the westbound (northbound) carriageway.
The westbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed from Spott Roundabout to Thistly Cross Roundabout between 7.30pm and 6am on both nights.
This will result in a diversion for westbound traffic on the A1 between Broxburn Junction and Thistly Cross Roundabout via the A1087 and Summerfield Road through Dunbar and the A199.
The detour will add an estimated eight minutes and 1.5 miles to journeys for those affected.
Spott Roundabout will remain open but access to the A1 from Bowerhouse Junction will be blocked.
A signed detour will guide motorists via the local road to Spott Roundabout.
Access to and from Myreside Junction will be controlled at the road closure points.
Emergency vehicles will be granted access at all times, and all traffic management measures will be removed outside of working hours.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: "These resurfacing improvements at Myreside Junction will create smoother and safer journeys for motorists using the A1 northbound.
"We’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption; however, if you do need to use this route on the nights of December 5 or 8, our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for the diversion."
