SCHOOLCHILDREN, young people and community groups joined forces to create a simple, yet powerful, Remembrance Day memorial display.
Bass Rock Community Group and local art collective pARTicipate have teamed up with schools, youth organisations and community groups to create a touching display of hand-painted pebbles.
The display is on show outside the Abbey Church in North Berwick throughout November.
Each pebble has been carefully decorated with symbols such as poppies, Union flags, as well as the “green fields of France", creating a colourful and poignant tribute to those who gave their lives during conflict.
The annual project has been brought together by people of all ages from across the town, with organisers delighted to see two nursery groups taking part for the first time.
Participants included: Abbey Church Super Sunday Club, St Baldred’s Junior Church, Fenton Barns Nursery, Law Primary School, Law Primary Out of School Club, North Berwick High School Pupil Support Base, North Berwick Youth Project, North Berwick Community Connections – Scone Café, 1st North Berwick Brownies, 2nd North Berwick Rainbows, 2nd North Berwick Brownies, 2nd North Berwick Guides, 5th North Berwick Brownies, 1st North Berwick Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, and St Andrew Blackadder Messy Church.
Richard Rogers, member of Bass Rock Community Group, said: “It is always impressive to see young people, from many of the of the young people’s groups in and around North Berwick, wanting to get involved in the painting of Remembrance pebbles for display outside of the Abbey Church in North Berwick.
"In addition, members of the North Berwick Community Connections Scone Café also get involved.
"With the design skills of pARTicipate, a local art group, the pebbles will be in place during November to remind everyone of the ultimate sacrifice made by many for the freedoms we enjoy today.
"Once again, we are very grateful to Abbey Church, for allowing the display to be placed outside the church.
"When the display is dismantled, the pebbles will be returned to the sea, carrying our thoughts with them.”
