AS BONFIRE Night fast approaches, this weekend kicks off an epic few days of fireworks displays and events.
With November 5 falling on a Wednesday this year, displays have been divided between the night itself and the two nearest weekends, so there are plenty of chances to watch some fantastic fireworks while warming yourself up with a hot drink and tasty snacks.
Haddington Fireworks and Bonfire
Kicking off the series of events on Saturday on Whittingehame Drive is Haddington's bonfire and fireworks display. Gates open at 6pm, with the bonfire lighting at 7pm and the fireworks beginning at 7.30pm. Entry is £2 per person, payable on the gate, while children under five go free. Organisers say they are looking forward to the event and ask people to bring the exact amount in cash, as change will be limited on the night.
Humbie Fireworks
Enjoy a spectacular Sunday watching fireworks in Humbie, held in the field opposite the village hall. Warm up with tea, coffee, mulled wine, hot dogs and soup, all served by local vendors and available for cash only. All sales and donations will help support the Humbie Youth & Community Fund. There is also field parking for 4x4s available, and car parking at Upper Keith Farm with friendly volunteers on hand to guide visitors. Tickets are available online for £6 per person, a family ticket is available for £18 and all children under three go free.
Pinkie Bonfire and Fireworks
If you are looking for some mid-week excitement then this free event in Musselburgh on November 5 is the perfect fit. Run by Mark Dougal, alongside four friends, this family-friendly show held at a playing field near Pinkiehill Crescent is also encouraging residents to drop off wooden pallets for the bonfire in the week leading up to the event. There is also an online fundraiser for donations to help continue to support the free community event. The bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm and the fireworks will get under way at about 8.15pm.
Yester Fireworks
This retro-inspired event next Saturday (November 8) is open to Gifford residents and children who attend Yester Primary School. Donations will be taken at the gate, as well as throughout the evening, raising money for causes across the county. With a 1980s theme in full swing, visitors are invited to dress up in their best tutus and perm their hair, as well as enjoy food and drink from trucks on the night. Opening at 6pm, the display begins at 8pm.
