A PERSON was pronounced dead on the railway tracks on Saturday evening, causing the closure of the North Berwick to Edinburgh line.
British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the line following reports of a casualty near Craigentinny Depot at about 10.30pm.
Paramedics also attended; however, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officors from BTP are “working to establish the full circumstances” leading up to their death.
As a result of the incident, the lines were closed between Edinburgh and North Berwick, and Edinburgh and Tweedbank.
Passengers on the 10.20pm North Berwick to Edinburgh ScotRail service were told they had to get off the train at about 10.40pm at Prestonpans.
Travellers had to find their own transport home after ScotRail was “unable” to secure replacement buses.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near to Craigentinny Depot at around 10.30pms following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended; however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances leading up to the person’s death.”
