A MEETING examining the future of Torness Power Station is being held in Dunbar.
The lifetime of the nuclear power station was extended to 2030 at the end of last year.
Previously, it had been announced that the power station, which employs about 550 full-time EDF employees alongside more than 180 full-time contract partners, would stop generating power in 2028.
Now, Britain Remade – “a campaign that believes we can do it again: by building the modern infrastructure the country needs” – is holding a meeting in Dunbar Town House.

According to promotional material for the meeting, which takes place from 7pm on May 1: “With the Scottish Government opposed to new nuclear power - just as the rest of Britain begins rolling out new Small Modular Reactor technology - Scotland risks being left behind.
“Will Torness have a future in the next generation of nuclear energy, or will we lose out on jobs, investment, and energy security?”
Launched in Yorkshire in 2022, Britain Remade say they're an independent, grassroots organisation, not affiliated with, or part of, any political party.
"We’re here to listen to, and represent, ordinary people - people who don’t normally do politics, or think the system works for them, but want to see change where they live," says their website.
"We believe things can be different. We can have a faster-growing, cleaner, economy. We're holding events across the UK to listen to your views, and to inform the development of our practical solutions to Britain's problems. We'll then campaign to make these solutions a reality."
