Preston Lodge pupils enjoy visit to former power station

The school trip was "part of an ambitious project" to encourage students to think of ideas for development on the land, which is now owned by East Lothian Council. 

The visit was led by Hannah Yorkston, one of the Home Rooms teachers.

"The site, once home to towering industrial structures, has now been cleared, leaving behind a prime opportunity for redevelopment.

"The visit gave students first-hand experience of urban regeneration and sustainability challenges.

Experts in urban planning and sustainability joined the visit, to share insights and challenge students to think critically about renewable energy, public green spaces, and reducing the carbon footprint of future projects.

"During their visit, the students explored the site’s unique features, including its proximity to the waterfront, surrounding ecosystems, and transport links. They were also given an overview of the site’s history, from its role as a critical energy hub to its recent demolition to pave the way for a greener future.

"Our students were described as ‘mature and focused’ by those working with them—well done, S1!"
