ONE-hundred years of a group’s passion for East Lothian’s historic and natural heritage have been toasted.
East Lothian Antiquarian and Field Naturalists’ Society celebrated its centenary during a full day of lectures and presentations at St Mary’s Parish Church, Haddington, last Saturday.
Distinguished academics and experts in their fields spoke on the theme of ‘East Lothian Through the Ages’.
The event was a sell-out, with more than 200 people in attendance.
A ceremonial cake was cut by the group’s president, Stephen Bunyan, by its new honorary president, the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, and by Sir Hew Dalrymple, whose grandfather was one of the group’s founder members 100 years ago.
A special cake was made to mark 100 years of the East Lothian Antiquarian and Field Naturalists' Society
In addition to the lecture programme, there were displays from other historical societies from the area.
Copies of the latest edition of Transactions, a biannual publication of historical articles, were distributed to members and were available for purchase by non-members.
A spokesperson for the group said: “We very much hope that the conference will encourage new members to join and continue the good work into the next century.
“The society will hold its annual general meeting on Saturday (May 25) at 2.30pm in West Barns Village Hall and all are welcome to attend.”
