A RECRUITMENT event is being hosted by Musselburgh Jobcentre on Wednesday.

The event is held at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre on Haddington Road from 10am to noon.

Recruiting employers attending on the day include Asda, Branch Out Together, ELCAP, Scotmid, FES Group, Haven Seton Sands, Delight Supported Living, Fort Kinnaird Recruitment and Skills Centre, ARK Housing, Capella, Leuchie House, Time For You and G4S.

East Lothian Works will also be on hand to offer advice on its employability support service.

Anyone interested in attending the event can be referred through their work coach at Musselburgh Jobcentre or turn up on the day.

John Scott, external relations leader for East Lothian with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), said: “Our work coaches say the best part of their job is seeing someone succeed in their employment goals.

“Giving people extra time and tailored support so they get the extra help needed to overcome barriers can make a huge difference to a someone’s life.

“As announced earlier this week, Universal Credit claimants will now benefit from extra help from their work coach if they work less than 18 hours a week.

“Importantly, those on Universal Credit can keep more of what they earn, while parents can receive increased childcare payments. Jobseekers can search our DWP ‘FindaJob’ website, to check out the thousands of jobs on offer.

“With nearly 900,000 job vacancies available nationally, helping people achieve financial security through work as the economy grows helps people build a better life for themselves.

“We work with businesses throughout East Lothian to help them fill their vacancies. This ongoing activity has contributed to a decrease in the in-year all-age claimant count for East Lothian of four per cent and a decrease in the in-year claimant count for 18-24 year-olds of seven per cent.”
