“YOUNGER, fresher hands” are being encouraged to take the helm of Gullane and Dirleton History Society.
The group held its annual general meeting last Wednesday.
A programme of talks for next year has already been planned, with Dr Hanita Ritchie speaking on ‘The Remarkable Women of East Lothian’ on September 18.
The group is now on the lookout for a new chairman after Dr Michael Thomson stepped down.
A spokesperson for the group said: “The pleasure of reviewing a successful year was challenged by knowing that our esteemed chairman of the last 11 years, Dr Michael Thomson, was stepping down to hand the reins to maybe younger, fresher hands.
“The members of the committee are looking for nominations for the role of chairperson and for new members of the committee.
“Bill Nimmo, secretary of the committee, praised Michael for his amazing hard work, dedication and enthusiasm, and handed him three framed antique maps of the district.
“To recognise the support and hard work cheerfully given by Michael’s wife, Brenda, the committee gave her a lovely bouquet.
“The meeting closed with a display of the Gullane and Dirleton committee archive, and hot cross buns washed down with tea and coffee.”
