A circus could be coming to North Berwick next year.

A request has been made to East Lothian Council about the possibility of a circus at the town’s Lodge Grounds.

North Berwick Community Council is being consulted.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We received a request for a potential circus booking in 2025.

“We are currently looking at whether this request could be facilitated and are engaging with community representatives such as the community council on the suitability.

“No decision has been taken at this time as to whether or not this event would go ahead which would also be subject to our SAG (Safety Advisory Group) process.”

The plans were discussed at this month’s meeting of North Berwick Community Council, with members voicing some concerns about the location of the event with fears it could have a negative impact on the park's grounds.

Peter Hamilton, member, said: “I think if they are going to use the ground right after the Fringe [by the Sea festival there] then that could be an issue.”

Vice-chair Judy Lockhart-Hunter, who stood down after the meeting, joked that “it would be a circus” as a result.

The group agreed that no comment could be made until more information was gained.

Kathryn Smith, secretary, said: “I don’t think we have enough information yet. Where exactly in the grounds will it be held? How long will it be there for? When will it take place? What will it consist of?

“I will write to say that we can’t comment until we’ve got more details.”
