CHOIRS, ensembles and soloists will fill a Haddington church as part of an annual concert series.

St Mary’s at 4 gets under way on May 12, with Judy Barker on Scottish small pipes and Sally Thomas playing an English concertina.

The following Sunday, local clarsach player Elinor Evans will perform at St Mary’s Parish Church.

A spokesperson for the concert series was looking forward to welcoming a wide selection of musicians this year.

They said: “This year we are delighted to have some performers who are new to St Mary’s, as well as favourite choirs, ensembles and soloists who have taken part in the series before.

“The concerts begin at 4pm, last between 45 minutes and an hour, and are held in the church on Sunday afternoons throughout the visitor season, which runs from May until the end of September.

“Admission to the concerts is free of charge, with the opportunity to donate to church funds.

“This year we are collecting for our project to clean and restore the clear glass windows at the east end of the church.

“No fees are paid to the performers, but they are given the opportunity to play free of charge in our lovely church with its warm acoustic and spectacular architecture.

“St Mary’s is a great place to relax and enjoy lovely music on a Sunday afternoon and to meet others.”

Already, organisers are looking for musicians interested in performing in next year’s St Mary’s at 4 series.
