A SURFWEAR specialist with more than 70 branches across the UK is looking to open its first store north of the border.

Saltrock, which was set up in 1988 by brothers Angus and Ross Thomson, plan to move into the former Trespass premises on North Berwick High Street.

Based in Devon, the business is named after a popular surfing spot in the brothers’ native South Africa.

Specialising in surfwear, ranging from hoodies and sweatshirts to hats, sunglasses, robes and towels, the business has grown to have branches throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Now, they are looking to open their first store in Scotland.

Trespass closed its North Berwick store last month.

An application from Saltrock Surfwear Ltd is currently with East Lothian Council’s planning department.

The business has applied for advertising consent to change the signs on the front of the building.

The Courier has approached the business for a comment on a potential timescale for opening and the number of jobs that could be created.
