A SUPERMARKET giant’s bid to open a new store at the heart of an expanding village has taken a step forward.

Permission is already in place for a convenience store in Wallyford.

Now, two applications from Tesco have been approved by East Lothian Council’s planning department.

Already, the supermarket chain has stores in Musselburgh, Haddington and North Berwick.

That number looks set to increase, with applications for a cash machine, lighting and gas coolers at the proposed Wallyford store given the go-ahead.

The new store would be built between the village’s primary school and secondary school, off Futures Way.

Tesco would be the largest of seven buildings, with six more units between the supermarket and the secondary school.

When the previous application was approved, there was to be space for “mixed use units” and an NHS facility.

The Courier has approached Tesco for a comment regarding when the store could open and how many jobs could be created.
