TORNESS Power Station, near Dunbar, has been powering East Lothian for decades with zero-carbon electricity, with employment and with support from its people for the local community.

Since generation started in 1988, the station has made enough electricity to power every home in Scotland for 29 years and has consistently been one of East Lothian’s largest employers, directly supporting around 750 jobs.

It is those people who really make Torness.

Over the years, staff at the site have supported a variety of local causes through bake sales, Christmas gift collections, raffles and sponsored events, as well as getting out into the community to offer a helping hand with gardening, painting, electrical or shed building work for some of the area’s charities.

East Lothian Courier:

EDF, which manages the site, is one of the sponsors of the Courier’s Foodbank Appeal.

A spokesperson for EDF explained that Torness staff’s history of helping good causes in the area was the reason why they had chosen to get involved in the campaign, saying: “That is why pledging support for the East Lothian Courier’s Foodbank Appeal makes sense for Torness.

“Given its proximity to Dunbar, many staff who work at the site have either grown up in the town or have chosen to make it their home.

“We hope that by supporting the appeal, Dunbar FoodShare, a charity that has been embedded in one of our closest communities for the last 10 years, will be able to continue putting food on the tables of people in East Lothian who are struggling.”
