‘DUMMY’ terns have been placed at Musselburgh Lagoons in a bid to attract more birds to the area.
Rangers planted the fake birds – which were created by the very first East Lothian countryside ranger back in the 1970s – at the site.
A spokesperson for the rangers said: “This week, we have been placing wooden terns in the gravel in the new lagoons.
“These 'dummy' terns are a way of trying to attract real terns to nest here.
“The dummy terns have a bit of history behind them as they were made by the first East Lothian ranger, Archie Mathieson, back in the '70s to be used for this very reason.
“Time will tell if they are successful, but we will keep you posted!”
