SCOTTISH Chamber Orchestra will be stopping off in Haddington as it marks its 45th anniversary of summer tours.

The national organisation is bringing together a host of conductors and soloists to present world-class, live classical music to more than 20 locations across the country.

The summer tour aims to build relationships with local communities, put Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) musicians centre stage and bring world-class concerts to audiences who might otherwise not be able to experience them.

The tour stops off at Haddington Corn Exchange on June 28, with a programme to show off the versatility of the string orchestra, in music from Mozart to Webern.

Directed by SCO leader Stephanie Gonley, the evening will open with Elgar paying tribute both to the baroque era and Welsh song, before a lyrical early work by Webern and a sprightly Divertimento by the teenage Mozart.

Tchaikovsky’s Serenade, richly scored and featuring one of his best-loved waltzes and a catchy Russian dance, will round things off.

Gavin Reid, SCO chief executive, said: “As we continue to mark our 50th anniversary this year, we are so excited once again to be off on a tour across the length and breadth of Scotland to share the joy of live music-making.

“With Maxim Emelyanychev and many of our own players at the helm, it’s fitting that our 45th summer tour showcases more than ever the sheer range of what the SCO has to offer audiences, wherever and whoever they are.”

The Haddington concert gets under way at 7.30pm.
