A CENTENARY of Gabriel Fauré will be celebrated at a concert in North Berwick.

Opera East Lothian (OEL) will present In A Monastery Garden at the town’s Abbey Church on April 27.

Commemorating the centenary of Fauré, the music and sounds of an imagined monastery garden will surround the audience in the first half of the programme.

John Marshall, OEL’s musical director, said: “In these troubled times, we are inviting the audience to use this experience as an opportunity for comfort and relaxation.”

Following the interval, Fauré’s Requiem will complete an evening of lyricism.

The North Berwick concert, which gets under way at 7.30pm, sees Cantilena Strings led by Angus Ramsay, with Stephen Doughty on the organ, join the company for the performance.

The suggested donation for tickets will be £16, with under-16s free.

Tickets can be obtained from Greens & Blues art gallery in North Berwick, from choir members, or at the door using contactless payment or cash.
