AN AWARD-WINNING jeweller almost missed out on the chance to celebrate clinching a prize at a prestigious ceremony.

The Scottish Wedding Awards took place in Glasgow last month, with businesses from throughout the country vying for awards.

East Lothian’s Morris-Jones Photography, Katie’s Cakes Scotland and Trinket Pixie Jewellery all celebrated success at the ceremony.

Caroline Nevison, from Port Seton-based Trinket Pixie Jewellery, revealed that winning the Jewellers of the Year category, ultimately, proved memorable for all the right reasons.

She said: “This is the fourth time I have been nominated. The first times was just as a finalist but last year I got highly commended.

“This year, I was not really expecting it at all.

“We were driving through and our tyre blew out on our van. We ended up standing at the side of the motorway while the AA came out.

“I was five minutes away from the hotel where the awards were being held when I got a message saying I had won!

“I missed the award the first time but when we arrived late they re-announced it.”

Caroline, 43, set up the business in her home almost 10 years ago.

Delighted customers were quick to take to social media to congratulate her on her success.

She added: “I do wedding stuff but a lot of it is personalised jewellery.

“It is just unique designs based on clients’ own designs or ideas.

“We create something together and everything I make is really personalised and sentimental.”

Dionne Jones, of Morris-Jones Photography, was also celebrating at the awards at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

She said: “I have been a finalist the last four years at the same awards.

“I have gone along and never won, so it was just nice timing.

“They host it in Glasgow every year and myself and my sister-in-law went along. You are a finalist but you don’t know if you have won until they do an announcement.”

Morris-Jones Photography, on Dunbar High Street, was crowned the south-east winner in the Photographer of the Year category.

Dionne said: “You see your name and then there is a heartbeat moment and then I heard my sister-in-law screaming that I had won!”

Since her award success, the 47-year-old has been inundated with congratulatory messages.

Dionne, who is married to former Dunbar United manager Geoff Jones, said: “If you go onto my social media pages, you will see so many customers, some of my really, really early couples, family friends, people I have yet to photograph, commenting. I don’t think I have had a bigger response to any post.

“There were lots of good luck messages before and then some really generous, beautiful messages of congratulations.”

Finally, Musselburgh-based Katie’s Cakes Scotland scooped Cake Designer of the Year South-East, before going on to clinch the national prize.

Katherine Hunt said: “I was just sitting waiting to hear who the finalists were and was totally shocked to hear my name called, and even more shocked to win overall.

“I was standing on stage with amazing cake artists – and they were congratulating me!

“My clients have been amazing, both couples I have already made cakes for and kind wishes from those I have yet to make cakes for.

“I am so touched that I was even nominated and knew nothing about it until my daughter called to tell me I was a finalist.

“My family and friends are so supportive and I have had lots of lovely messages and calls.”
