A group of musicians brought “sounds of the sea” to Abbey Church in North Berwick, in a concert organised by Lamp House Music to raise funds for the RNLI in celebration of the charity’s 200-year anniversary.

The money will go towards the upkeep of North Berwick lifeboat station.

Mihaly Stefko, a violinist, and cellist wife Natasha Szervanszky Cavaye moved to East Lothian in 2022 and took over the running of the music school in Haddington.

Natasha said: “We wish to use this incredible opportunity to take music into the community in as many ways as we can and so were excited to put on a concert in aid of such a worthy cause.”

Ronald Cavaye and Valerie Szervanszky, an internationally renowned piano duo who have performed and taught all over the world and have recently moved to the county, held the audience spellbound on March 10 with Debussy’s Marche Écossaise and Fauré’s Dolly Suite.

Local author Ailsa Fortune gave a brief introduction on the history of the lifeboat institution and its local links.

She said: “We live beside a wonderful stretch of Britain’s coastline and for the most part we can enjoy the opportunities it offers.

“When things go wrong, and they do, we are also very fortunate to have on our doorstep lifeboat stations, in North Berwick and Dunbar, manned by volunteer crews, ready to turn out at a moment’s notice, day or night, to give assistance to anyone in trouble in our coastal waters. The RNLI volunteers are deserving of our continuing support.”
