AN ORMISTON man has been banned from the road after he was found guilty of drink-driving and having no vehicle insurance.

Craig Carlin stood trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week accused of taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner and to being more than three times the drink-drive limit.

Carlin, 37, was also charged with having no insurance for the vehicle and uttering threats towards police officers after he had been arrested and taken to an Edinburgh police station.

He denied all the allegations and was in the dock, on trial, before Sheriff Kevin McCarron last Tuesday.

Following the evidence, Carlin, of Wishart Place, was acquitted of taking the vehicle without the consent of the owner from an address at McGregor Pend, Prestonpans, on December 27, 2020.

But he was found guilty of driving the vehicle while having 74mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath at the A1 Bankton Junction on the same date. The limit is 22mg.

He was also found guilty of driving the vehicle with no insurance and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and uttering threats at St Leonard’s Police Station on the same date.

Sheriff McCarron handed out an interim driving ban to Carlin and deferred full sentence to next month for social work reports.
