A MUSSELBURGH resident was slammed by a sheriff for “a dreadful incident” involving the verbal abuse of police.

Michelle Millar, of Edenhall Crescent, was being taken to St Leonard’s Police Station in Edinburgh in the back of a police van when she became abusive towards the officers.

Millar had been arrested on a matter no longer before the court and during the course of the journey she behaved in a threatening or abusive manner last August.

The 51-year-old acted in an aggressive manner and was heard shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence towards the constables.

She appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday, where Sheriff John Cook described her behaviour as “a dreadful incident towards police officers”.

The sheriff said: “The court will reflect that with an alternative to a financial penalty with imposing unpaid work.”

Millar was sentenced to carry out 50 hours of unpaid work in the community to be completed within six months.

Millar admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner while in the course of a journey between Musselburgh and St Leonard’s Police Station in Edinburgh on August 21 last year.
