THE sound of music has filled the corridors of Knox Academy after the school’s annual Battle of the Bands competition.
Nine S2 classes at the secondary school, each representing a school house, battled it out last Thursday (March 7).
Each class voted for their choice of song in December and were then given six music lessons to practise.
Nine songs – Riptide (Vance Joy), Rockin’ All Over the World (Status Quo), Freed From Desire (Gala), Gangsta’s Paradise (Coolio), I’m Still Standing (Elton John), All Star (Smash Mouth), Save Your Tears (The Weeknd), Love is an Open Door (Kristen Bell and Santino Fontana) and Stay (Rihanna) – were available for students.
Three competitive heats took place with a judging panel made up of last year’s Battle of the Band winners, Red Raven, and S3 music students. The final came down to Freed from Desire (Garleton house), Gangsta’s Paradise (Lammerlaw house) and Love is an Open Door (Traprain house).
A new judging panel marked the bands performances on melody, harmony, rhythm, creativity, communications and confidence.
In the end, the group performing Coolio’s 1995 hit were announced as the winners.
A spokesperson for the school said: “A huge well done to all our wonderful performers!”
