AN ORMISTON motorist who drove into the path of an oncoming cyclist has avoided a road ban.

Owen Bryce drove his vehicle without due care and attention by overtaking a car when it was not safe to do so and driving into the path of the cyclist on the A6093 road near Ormiston.

Bryce, of the village’s Strawberry Punnet, also overtook a second cyclist and drove close to him during the incident at the A6093 at the junction of the B6371 and B6367 on March 11 last year.

The 22-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week, where he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of careless driving that had been reduced from one of dangerous driving.

Sheriff Ian Anderson fined Bryce £790 and placed six penalty points on his driving licence.
