A MACMERRY resident was caught with £120 of cannabis when passing police officers noticed the smell of the drug coming from his car.
Aaron Cuthill was sitting in his vehicle when the officers noted the distinctive odour of the Class B drug “emanating” from the vehicle at the Coal Road, which links the village with Longniddry, on April 30, 2022.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that the vehicle was subsequently searched at about 1.30pm and 12.99g of the drug was found which was said to have a value of £120.
Cuthill, of Annfield Court, was arrested and charged.
The 24-year-old was in the dock at the Capital court last week, where he pleaded guilty to being in possession of the drug.
Lawyer James Stewart, representing Cuthill, said that his client lived with his father and was in full-time employment working in a job repairing agricultural machinery.
Mr Stewart said this was a first offence for Cuthill, and though he had used the drug in the past, his arrest had been “a wake-up call” for him and he had stopped.
Sheriff Donald Corke said that, due to the “age of the complaint and your age”, he was content to admonish Cuthill.
