A CEREMONY marking the opening of the fishing season on the River Tyne takes place on Saturday.
The water will be blessed by a minister, then an offering of whisky will be poured into the water for the health of the river and fish.
East Lothian Angling Association is hosting the event, which is open to anyone interested in the river, thinking of taking up angling or interested in learning more about what the group is doing to improve and maintain the long-term health of the river and its environment.
Anyone wishing to attend the ceremony should meet at the Burns Well Monument car park on the B6368 Bolton Road at 11.30am. Members of the angling association will guide groups down to the river.
Permits to fish for under-18s are free and available on the day.
At the same time, there will be a chance to try fly casting and a demonstration on river sampling where attendees can see which bugs live in the river.
