Residents in the Musselburgh area are invited to hear the geological story of the River Esk at the next Esk Valley Trust evening talk.

The speaker is Angus Miller, an Edinburgh-based geologist and teaching fellow at the Centre for Open Learning at the University of Edinburgh.

He is involved with Edinburgh Geological Society and Scottish Geology Trust, and has led key initiatives to promote the geology of Scotland, including Scotland’s Geodiversity Charter and the first Scottish Geology Festival.

In his talk Mr Miller will explore the “deep time” record of flowing water in the area of the Esk valleys, which is responsible for creating many of the rocks of the region, including the coal fields. He will also consider the course of the current river and how this has evolved, with some thoughts about what might happen next.

His talk ‘Rivers past and present: the geological story of the River Esk’, given via Zoom, takes place on Thursday, March 21, at 7.30pm.

It is open to all and is free.
