JOHNNIE Cope’s Road, which links Prestonpans and Tranent, will be temporarily closed tomorrow (Friday).

East Lothian Council confirmed that the closure would be in place to allow for carriageway patching works to be carried out on the road.

Councillors voted last year to keep the road open, after proposals had been made to close the road to vehicles and make it pedestrian access only.

A campaign called on councillors to vote in favour of keeping the road open, with many residents in Prestonpans and Tranent asking for the road to be improved for traffic.

At the February meeting of Prestonpans Community Council, members raised concerns about the number of potholes on the road.

A spokesperson for East Lothian Council confirmed that the works were to patch up the worst areas of the road.

They said: " The Johnnie Cope's Road that runs between A199, west of Tranent to Prestonpans, will temporarily close tomorrow (Friday, March 8) to allow for carriageway works to be carried out. Diversion signs will be in place.”
