Dunbar is the lowest ranked train station in East Lothian, according to new research from rail data website On Time Trains.

The data (which used information from the past six months) ranked all 2,638 train stations in the UK based on cancellations and delayed services.

And it has revealed that Dunbar train station was the lowest ranked station in East Lothian, placed at 1,871 in the UK.

Dunbar is the 989th busiest train station in the UK, serving an average of 875 passengers per day.

Just 51 per cent of its services arrived on time at the station, with ten per cent of services at least 10 minutes late. Seven per cent of services in the last six months were cancelled.

Every UK station was given a performance score based on service punctuality and cancellation frequency.

Dunbar, which saw 6,338 services run in the last six months, was given a performance score of 76 per cent.

Prestonpans train station was the best scoring in the county, and 665th in the UK in the last six months.

Data showed that 56 per cent of its 6,441 services ran on time, with only two per cent at least 10 minutes late and three per cent cancelled.

The station received a performance score of 88 per cent.

Prestonpans came in at 1,342 in the list of busiest stations in the UK and fifth in the county, with 474 average daily passengers.

Musselburgh station ranked at 870 in the UK in the last six months, with 49 per cent of its 8,318 services running on time.

Two per cent of services were at least 10 minutes late and three per cent were cancelled.

Musselburgh station received a performance score of 81 per cent and was the 943rd busiest station in the UK – second busiest in the county – with an average of 960 passengers a day.

Drem station ranked 865 on the list with a performance score of 86 per cent.

Of its 6,441 services in the last six months, two per cent were at least 10 minutes late and three per cent were cancelled.

Forty-eight per cent of services arrived on time.

Drem was the quietest station in East Lothian and the 1,624th busiest station in the UK in the last six months, with an average of 282 passengers per day.

Wallyford station ranked just behind Drem, at 856 in the UK, also with an 86 per cent performance score.

Of the 7,025 services running at the station in the last six months, 51 per cent were on time.

Again, two per cent were at least 10 minutes late and three per cent were cancelled.

Wallyford was the 1,234th busiest UK station in the past six months, seeing an average of 573 passengers per day.

North Berwick was the busiest station in East Lothian and the 827th busiest station in the UK with an average of 1,263 passengers per day over the last six months.

North Berwick station was the third lowest performing in East Lothian, coming in at 985 on the UK list.

Only 43 per cent of its 6,730 services departed on time, though a further 46 per cent were only one or two minutes late.

Only one per cent of services were at least 10 minutes late and three per cent were cancelled.

The station was given a performance score of 86 per cent.

East Lothian’s second lowest ranked station was Longniddry, which came in at 1,168 on the list.

With a performance score of 84 per cent, the study found that only 37 per cent of services departed on time.

Of its 6,437 services, two per cent were at least 10 minutes late and three per cent were cancelled.

It was also the second quietest station in the county and the 1,470th busiest in the UK in the last six months, with 380 average passengers per day.

A ScotRail spokesperson said that it measures the performance of its stations by combining figures for punctuality and reliability into a single performance measure.

They stated that Dunbar train station had a score of 92.9 per cent and Prestonoans a score of 85.1 per cent in the last six months.

The spokesperson added that ScotRail did not recognise the figures from On Time Trains as accurate.

They said: “We know that trains running on time is one of the most important factors for people travelling in East Lothian, and across the rest of the country.

“ScotRail will continue to work hard on performance and deliver the best possible service to our customers.”
