A £3,000 bill to replace a bus shelter which has been severely damaged is unlikely to be met any time soon.
Councillor George McGuire told members of Haddington and District Community Council the bus shelter, near Haddington Retail Park, had been “struck by something”.
Perspex had been shattered and the frame of the structure was “buckled”.
The damage is such that the shelter cannot be repaired and instead a replacement will have to be purchased.
He told the meeting that a replacement would “have to wait until the next financial year” and estimated the bill was likely to be about £3,000.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of damage to a bus shelter near Haddington Retail Park.
“It is on our programme of works to be replaced when funding is available; however, current budget challenges and competing priorities mean that there is no timescale as to when this will be possible.
“The shelter remains functional in the meantime.”
