EAST Lothian is among the top five areas in the UK where homes are selling above their list price, according to new research.

The study, by moving platform Getamover.co.uk, analysed Zoopla data for homes sold at a different amount than the list price and found that East Lothian homes sell for nearly £30,000 more on average than the average list price.

The average sale price, average listing price and the difference between the two were considered in the research to reveal which areas see the most homes above their original list price and how much more on average.

East Lothian came fifth on the list, with homes listed at an average price of £255,219 but selling on average for £284,675 – £29,456 more than the original price range.

Scottish council areas domin- ated the top spots on the list, with East Renfrewshire placing first.

On average, a home in East Renfrewshire is sold for £272,187, but homes are listed initially at an average price of £235,479 – an increase of £36,708.

East Dunbartonshire was in second place and Edinburgh in fourth, behind Cambridge.

David Burrows, head of Geta mover.co.uk, said: “Buying a home is expensive no matter where in the UK you choose to settle down, but a fantastic investment.

“This study gives huge insight into the most desired areas and where you might find yourself having to pay rather a lot more than the original list price.”
