A Prestonpans girl is once again cutting off her hair to help other youngsters in need.

Annalise Kelly, 10, wanted to do something to help people this spring and has decided to cut off much of her hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer or other illnesses, free of charge.

The Preston Tower Primary School pupil previously donated nine inches of her hair to the charity in 2021 but wanted to go a step further this year and is donating 12 inches this time around.

Annalise, of Schaw Road, has also set up a fundraising page so supporters can donate cash to the charity, alongside her hair.

According to the Little Princess Trust, a real hair wig costs up to £700 to make, style and fit, and Annalise wants to raise enough to fund at least one wig.

Her mum, Karen Kelly, told the Courier: “We did it a couple of years back but really her hair was just getting long then and she was getting fed up with it! We donated it to the charity then.

“She came to me a few weeks back asking if she could do it again and if there was anything else she could do. That’s when we got the idea to fundraise.”

The youngster has raised more than £500 so far and plans to have her hair cut on video on Saturday (March 2).

Karen said: “We’re really grateful for all the support.

“She went to Sunday School at Prestongrange Parish Church and the members there made a donation of £110.

“She’s so thankful for any donations, though, even £5, she’s so thankful.

“I set up the page but Annalise checks on it and she gets the notifications when she gets a donation. It’s all her and I am really proud.

“She’s only 10 so she’s only just got her phone and access to the internet. It’s good to see her doing something positive with it.

“We are all very proud.”

Wendy Tarplee-Morris, founder of the Little Princess Trust, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Annalise for her wonderful support of our charity. Hair donations and fundraising are vital for us as we continue to provide wigs to so many children and young people.

“Our charity pays for the making, fitting and styling of the wig, and so support from amazing ‘superhairoes’ like Annalise makes such an important difference.”
