A SCHEME to spruce up shopfronts in Haddington could be launched later this year.
A fund has already been set up by East Lothian Council, working alongside Prestonpans Community Council, to help businesses to repair or enhance their property in Prestonpans.
The prospect of a similar scheme in Haddington was mentioned by the town’s community council earlier this month.
Now a spokesperson for the local authority has confirmed that plans are being drawn up.
They said: “Council officers have met with representatives of Haddington and District Community Council to discuss a shopfront improvement grant scheme in the town similar to the current Prestonpans scheme.
“Further discussions are planned and so it’s too early at this stage to advise further but we’re hopeful it can be actioned later this year.”
In Prestonpans, grants of up £5,000 are being made available through the initiative.
