NINETY homes being built on the outskirts of Elphinstone could lead to another three on the opposite side of the road.

Bellway is building three and four-bedroom properties north of the B6414, which passes through the village.

Now, to the south of the road, Carol Auld is hoping to construct three homes for her and her daughters.

An application has been lodged with East Lothian Council’s planning department.

A supporting statement says that the Bellway development is “redefining the shape and size” of the village.

It outlines how the context of the site has changed “dramatically” and states: “It no longer has the character of a grass field/paddock just outside the village, but will be very much part of the western edge of Elphinstone providing visual (and stylistic) balance to the development on the north of the road into the village.”

Each of the three proposed properties differs slightly.

According to drawings included with the application, the first home would feature a ground-floor bedroom alongside a lounge, dining/kitchen and sitting area.

The second home would include a garage instead of a ground-floor bedroom and the third home has a smaller sitting area and a study.

Upstairs, all three homes would have four bedrooms.

Development consultant Tony Thomas, who is representing Mrs Auld, encouraged the planning department to rubberstamp the application.

He said: “The site is easily capable of delivering three attractive and appropriate new homes both in terms of delivering homes for Mrs Auld and her immediate family but also in the context of the western edge of Elphinstone.”
