SECTIONS of road at the centre of North Berwick will be shut for much of next month.

East Lothian Council plans to start the installation of a carriageway raised table at the junction of the town’s High Street, Quality Street and Melbourne Place from March 4.

A spokesperson for the local authority confirmed the work would be split into three phases.

They said: “It is appreciated that this type of work may cause some disruption to residents and businesses, and the council will always work constructively and where possible seek to minimise any disruption or impact on those that live, work, or visit the location.

“To undertake the work safely, selective road closures are to be implemented, and to minimise the impact on all road users, the work is programmed in three phases.

“The road closures will be in place between 9am and 4pm on weekdays only, except for Melbourne Place (car park exit).”

The first phase, which covers weekdays from March 4-15, will cover footway and drainage work at the High Street and Quality Street junction.

The following week, work will focus on footway and drainage work at the Quality Street and Melbourne Place junction.

Finally, from March 25-28, raised table surfacing will take place between 9am and 4pm.

The spokesperson added: “All diversion routes will be signed and advance notification signage in place before commencement.

“Pedestrian access and emergency vehicle access will always be maintained.

“The above dates are subject to change given the weather susceptible nature of the construction process.

“Further correspondence providing more specific details including contact details for any queries and access arrangements will be issued to all properties directly impacted by the work.
