A section of the A1 will be closed for four nights this month to allow for resurfacing improvements to take place.

The southbound carriageway of the A1 after Bankton Junction is set to benefit from resurfacing improvements, with four nights of roadworks planned from Monday 26 to Thursday 29 February.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works overnight, between 7.30pm and 6am on all four nights.

The A1 southbound will be closed at Bankton Junction while the works take place. A diversion route will be signposted between Bankton Junction and Abbotsview Junction, directing traffic via the A198, B1377 and A6137. This diversion is expected to add approximately 2.2 miles and nine minutes onto affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These resurfacing improvements on the A1 will result in smoother and safer journeys for road users.

“We’ve scheduled the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption, however if you do need to use the A1 southbound on one of these nights our advice is to plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes for your journey.”
