PLANS to merge the congregations at neighbouring Cockenzie Old Parish Church and Chalmers Memorial Church, both in Cockenzie and Port Seton, continue to progress.
A vote on the merger is expected to take place this spring, when plans will then be finalised.
A spokesperson said: “The congregations of Cockenzie Old Parish Church and Chalmers Memorial Church continue to engage in positive discussions about a union later in the year.
“There will likely be a vote on this in the spring by the church members, which will allow a period of finalising plans and appointing office bearers before the union takes place.

“The kirk session of the Old Parish are continuing to work on plans for the disposal of their building, with a clear aspiration that their premises will remain of use to the local community.
“We are planning a number of shared services in the coming months.”
