A “CRITICAL” AGM will determine the future of Elphinstone Community Association.

Margo Macdonald has served as chair of the association, which was founded in 2015, for five years and has been an active member since 2016. But she will step down from the role at the group’s AGM to allow someone else to take over.

The voluntary group helps fundraise for the village’s annual fair, as well as other activities in the village such as pantomimes.

Margo, who is also a member of Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council, said that, should new members not be found, the group might not continue.

She said: “We have 10 members currently. But at some meetings we have only about three.

“I have been involved for a while and I felt it was the right time to let someone else take charge. It is a lot of work but very rewarding.

“The reality is if we don’t get new blood in then we won’t be able to continue, which would be a real shame.

“This is a critical meeting that will determine the future of the group. We are in desperate need of committee members to come and help us promote the rights of all tenants and residents of the village in matters relating to repairs, maintenance, amenities and our environment.

“Elphinstone Community Association has done much in the past but are seriously hampered to doing more due to lack of bodies to help out. We’d like to see some younger faces join. They are the future of the village and it would be good to see them involved.”

The AGM takes place at 7pm on February 26 at Elphinstone Miners’ Welfare and Social Club.

Leaflets will be posted out to residents in the coming days.
