A RODENT problem is preventing a school from serving pupils hot lunches.

There have been reports of mice at Campie Primary School, Musselburgh.

A post yesterday on the Campie Community Facebook page, which is linked to the school, told parents and carers about the issue.

It said: "The school is continuing to work with the Environmental Health Team to deal with reports of mice in the building.

"As a contingency, the school will only be able to provide packed lunches for the rest of this week.

"Look out for more updates from the school."

One person replied: "This is getting ridiculous! [It's] About the sixth time in four months [this has happened]. Just get the school fumigated and get rid once and for all!"

In response, a page administrator said: "Unfortunately we can only relay the information shared by the school. But if you would like more information about the steps being taken to resolve the issue, or if the lack of hot lunches will cause an issue for your child(ren), please contact the school directly.

"Fingers crossed the little rodents are a thing of the past soon."

A spokesperson for East Lothian Council said: “Due to the presence of mice within Campie Primary School, our facilities and environmental health teams, along with school management, have agreed to temporarily close the kitchen in the interests of food safety.

“Children will instead be provided with a packed lunch which is being prepared in Burgh Primary kitchen and transported to school.

"This arrangement will continue this week and next until the February break.

“Despite extensive efforts from a range of teams, including maintenance and specialist pest control contractors, there continue to be sightings in specific areas of the building.”
