MEMBERS of Tranent Wombles were left astounded by a generous donation from Masonic lodges throughout East Lothian.
County lodges collected cash raised from fundraisers throughout the year to donate £1,200 to the Tranent-based group.
The Wombles, who do voluntary litter picking and have also renovated a small garden space on Lindores Drive, will use the money to continue operations this year.
Henry Mathias, chairman of the Wombles, said: “This donation will go a long way for us. It is truly fantastic.
“We have had a very busy start to 2024 with lots of post-Christmas clean-ups.
“This money will go towards litter-picking equipment, more bins and our gardening work.”
The group hopes to open a new garden area in Foresters Park this year too, with some of the donated money going towards that.
Mr Mathias added: “It will be a busy year for us.
“We have lots planned and we also want to ensure we keep doing what we are doing.
“Support from the public is a big help always and we are very thankful.”
