A PRESTON Lodge High School teacher who has said farewell to the school after 11 years was clapped out of the building last Friday as he left for the final time.

Campbell McNeil has taken up a post at Berwickshire High School after teaching drama at the Prestonpans school.

The opportunity of a job closer to his home was behind the decision to switch schools.

Pupils lined the corridors to give the much-loved teacher a standing ovation as he left the school last week.

Gavin Clark, headteacher at the school, said: “Campbell is a hugely popular teacher who has had a massive impact on the lives of many students, so it was no surprise, then, that students arranged for him to be clapped out of the building as he left PL for the last time.

“Campbell has been a great friend to many of our staff too in his time at PL. Whether it be karaoke in Campbell’s room, a chance to catch up at lunchtime or a simple chat in the corridor, Campbell will be as missed by staff as he will be by students.

“As well as providing great learning opportunities in his drama classroom, Campbell offered students regular chances to attend theatre performances in Edinburgh and was a key organiser of many very successful school trips pre-Covid.

“Thank you, Campbell – we will miss you and we wish you all the best in your new post.”
