Scottish Water has asked Tranent residents to obey road closure signs on Elphinstone Road. . . even though it appears that the signage had been mischievously moved.

A road closure is in place on Elphinstone Road in Tranent, for a short distance near the roundabout to New Row opposite USave, to allow for Scottish Water to repair a valve leak in the area.

Work began yesterday (Tuesday) and the valve has now been repaired. The road will remain closed for a further three days to allow for the reinstatement of the road.

Delays can be expected as a result.

Scottish Water confirmed that one person had been in contact with them to say that the road closure sign had been moved yesterday and that cars were passing through.

The sign was soon returned.

A Scottish Water Spokesperson said: “Scottish Water have a road closure in place at Elphinstone Road, Tranent, in order to repair on a leaking valve.

"Repairs to the valve were completed yesterday and we are arranging the reinstatement of the road; once this has been completed the road will be reopened to traffic.

"While we understand a road closure is inconvenient, we ask that road users follow the signs and local diversions.”
