ABOUT 40 competitors battled to be crowned the first ever winners of Musselburgh Grammar School Parent Council’s pub quiz.

The winning team, with a score of 69/80 or 86.25 per cent – an A grade – was Quiz Teama Aguilera.

The quiz, which it is hoped will become a regular once-a-term fixture, was held at the Store Club on North High Street.

Quizmaster David Allan posed questions in picture rounds, general knowledge and music.

The winning team was made up of mums of pupils at the school: Geraldine Mackenzie, Gillian Steel, Sally Olds and Claire McLean.

Three fundraising games were also enjoyed at half-time, including heads or tails, last person standing and a team scavenger hunt. Nadine Lowrey, who has children in S5 and S2, donated prizes for two games. Councillor John McMillan, Provost of East Lothian, also donated a bottle of wine at the school’s prizegiving for the third game.

Quiz prizes came out of the ticket income, so organisers are hoping for more ticket sales next time for “bigger and better” prizes.

The money raised will be used by the parent council for the school.

Previous initiatives supported from fundraising by the parent council were the school app, an art prize, and a prize for each year group in S2-S6 for pupils nominated by teaches as demonstrating an excellent match to school values.
