AN ANGLING association is getting ready to celebrate its 125th year.

East Lothian Angling Association, which was formed in 1899, is holding its annual gathering on Thursday, January 25.

The group meets in the Alastair Grant Hall at Haddington’s Bridge Centre from 7.30pm.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We would like to encourage anyone who would be interested in helping the association in 2024 to achieve its key aims in protecting our river.

“So if you are interested in your local environment, interested in fly fishing or would be keen to start, we are very keen to welcome you to our AGM.”

Since its formation, East Lothian Angling Association’s aims have changed over the years.

As well as managing the fishing rights in the river, a lot of the association’s activity is now based around environmental protection on some 15 miles of river that runs through a mixture of populated, arable and livestock land.
