The success of North Berwick’s Christmas lights switch-on event has been celebrated by members of the town’s community council.

North Berwick has long held a special celebration for its lights but upped the ante this year with a parade and events that brought together a wide spread of the local community.

The celebrations on November 25 started with a range of activities aimed at the whole family throughout the day, before the “evening enchantment” got under way.

At their December meeting, members of North Berwick Community Council described the event as “fabulous” and thanked community councillor Mairi Benson for her hard work organising it.

She was quick to thank others who helped her with the planning, stressing that it had been “a big team effort”.

So far, community feedback has been generally very positive, members heard, even though some changes may need to be made for next year.

Mairi said: “There has been lots of positive feedback, and expected negative feedback.

“It was insanely busy: I didn’t think any of us expected it to be as busy as it was.

“There are changes we need to make [going forward].”

She added that local traders seemed very pleased with how the switch-on went and the events during the daytime were “very busy and well received”.

Bill Macnair, community councillor, added: “I am glad traders are now getting involved.”
