A STAPLE of the sporting calendar has found a new date and a new home.

The New Sprint, which dates back to 1870, was held at Musselburgh Racecourse for more than 20 years.

However, after being held at Meadowbank Stadium 12 months ago, it has found a new home at Grangemouth Stadium.

The event, which usually took place on New Year's Day, will take place next Saturday (January 6).

James Cunningham, who won the event in 1998, has taken over the organising of the event following the retirement of Frank Hanlon.

The draw for the heats took place earlier this month.
