A BID is being made to provide “a luxury glamping experience” with “the most amazing views”.

Steven Reynolds is looking to create a glamping pod at Camptoun Holdings, west of Athelstaneford.

A planning application has now been lodged with East Lothian Council, with hopes that, in time, three glamping pods could be created.

A supporting statement included with the application notes: “It is proposed to encourage tourism within East Lothian by providing a luxury glamping experience within this site that has the most amazing views of East Lothian across to Edinburgh, its castle and on to Fife and the Forth Bridges.

“The local area is full of wildlife, walking/cycling routes and the amenities of other local towns and villages, all attractive to visitors.

“Research has indicated that there is a shortage of reasonably priced tourist accommodation in East Lothian and it is considered that the proposed pods, with the views and rural location, would be highly desirable.

“The rural location will not only give access to East Lothian’s attractions but will also provide space where guests can focus on their wellbeing, wellness and self-care.

“The land around the pods and the pond will include wildflower and grass meadows to attract further wildlife.”

The first phase of the development would see the creation of a single, four-person glamping pod. The second phase, which requires a separate planning application, would involve two two-person glamping pods.

The supporting statement continues: “Local employment will be required to help manage and maintain the glamping pods, and to carry out the work associated with the workshop, livestock and kitchen gardens proposed for the smallholding.”
