GREEN-FINGERED volunteers have helped plant more than 400 saplings at a popular Dunbar park.

Friends of Winterfield encouraged people to head along to Winterfield Park last month to give them a hand.

And a spokesperson for the group was pleased to say, thanks to the efforts of more than 15 volunteers, they now had “two beautifully widened hedges”.

They said: “The 420 saplings came as a ‘wild harvest’ pack from The Woodland Trust and included elder, hazel, rowan, crab apple, blackthorn and dog rose.

“As well as planting the saplings, we had enough people to help with maintenance work on the saplings we planted in March of this year.

“It has been a very successful few weeks; preparing the planting sites and the initial stages of the wildlife garden.

“We’re very optimistic that Friends of Winterfield’s efforts will flourish and enhance Winterfield Park for the community.”
