A NEW headteacher has been selected for Law Primary School, North Berwick.

Ronnie Taylor, who is currently headteacher at Gullane Primary School, has been named by East Lothian Council as the “preferred candidate” to fill the vacancy.

Mr Taylor will leave his current position as headteacher at Gullane to start work in North Berwick following the February break.

He took up the role at Gullane in 2021, having previously worked in the same position at Innerwick and Stenton Primary Schools.

Mr Taylor shared his joy with the Courier at taking on the new position, adding his thanks to those at Gullane who gave him “many happy memories”.

He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to Law Primary School and very excited to be joining such a fantastic community, and one I have had connections with over the past three years.

“I have had an incredible time at Gullane Primary School, where we have enjoyed much success, and from where I will have many happy memories.

“I am looking forward to the challenge and rewards of a larger school and getting to know the pupils, parents and staff team.

“I am really pleased that I will be continuing my career as part of the North Berwick Associated Schools Group.”

An East Lothian Council spokesperson added: “Following a recruitment process, Ronnie Taylor is the preferred candidate for the position of headteacher at Law Primary School.

“Mr Taylor is currently headteacher at Gullane Primary School and has previously led Innerwick and Stenton joint school community.

“He is due to join Law after February break 2024.

“A recruitment campaign will now commence to appoint a new headteacher for Gullane Primary School.”

Law Primary School will continue to be led by acting headteacher Sally Penman until February.

The vacancy became available after Jacqui Mackinnon moved to become headteacher at Dunbar Primary School at the start of the school year.

She had been at Law Primary since 2019 but had latterly been on secondment at Wallyford Primary School.
